One man festival

On Friday I arrived in Stockholm and what was supposed to be an easy and relaxing day, quickly turned into the exact opposite. From the morning to the early evening I just spend my time wanderng up and down the streets, looking for interesting subjects and having a random chat here and there. Later, around 20:30, I was looking for a restaurant to have a quick bite, but when I encountered Mareks Radzevičs, a music student from Latvia, I was instantly blown away – and so were many more.

I listened to his whole very beautiful set twice, before finally grabbing something to eat.
After the meal I headed straight back and listened to his music until he stopped playing at around 00:40. An interesting observation was that there were a few people just like me, who listened to him all the way until he finally called it a day, but most were just passing by, stopping for 5-15 minutes and then continuing their trip. People who previously had earphones in their ears took them out to enjoy his music, even if they were just passing by. When I talked to other people there they all agreed, that this guy didn’t deserve all that money he had received during the evening. He deserved more – way more. In the end I got to know a few people from the Netherlands and the US and we had a great time together listening to my recordings of Mareks amazing music over and over and over again. I think I recorded his whole set on my soundrecorder, but don’t have the time to look into those files at the moment. So until then these photographs will have to suffice.

  1. Hello Jan, i found your page when looking for recordings or a CD of Mareks. Me and my girlfriend saw him playing in august in stockholm as well and were really impressed about his playing. It was the journey when I asked my girlfriend whether she want to marry me and I want that music to remember the day. So I would be deeply grateful if you could share your recording with me. Please contact me if it’s possible! Greets from germany. Daniel

    1. Hello Daniel!
I will publish some of the recordings here soon. I just have to figure out a good way to do that. Stay tuned and I’ll keep you in the loop.
Best of luck to you both! 🙂
